Homecall & Broadband costs
Posted by R Morris on January 14th, 2005

I'm a Mac user wanting to get broadband but not understanding some
aspects especially of payments to different providers.

EG
Homecall seem offer a good deal at £24.99 per month for broadband with
all national teleophone calls included - ie no extra charge at all.
(or £19.99 per month with some cost for phone calls)

Q - is there still a charge to be paid to BT ? (if so what?)

and a couple of secondary questions:

Q - is email accessible through Entourage/Mail?
(MacOS 10.3.7 & M.S. Office 11.1)

Q - are newsgroups still accessible?

Thanks

You still need to pay £10.50 to BT regardless of what you choose. You need
to pay for BT Together 1.

I would go for TalkTalk over HomeCall. Customer Service is much better and
calling rates are better.

I would not worry about National Rate calls.

Go for TalkTalk's Talk+1 package which gives you free calls to TalkTalk
customers any time and free calls up to 70 minutes to all landlines evening
and weekend.

Register with:
http://www.18866.co.uk/index2.php#

and setup your phone so that you can dial 18866 just before you make a
daytime call in the U.K. and get the call for 1p per call no matter how
long.

Total cost of package:
£10.50 + £19.99

Homecall can provide you with line rental too. £9.99 p/m.
Cheaper than Talk Talk too.

Line rental? - isn't that what I would be paying BT £10.50 for?

Thanks for info, AMO & Gregster

Yep, that's what you pay BT £10.50 for. They now have to sell it on a
wholesale basis to other companies,
