- How can I point mydomain.com to mydomain.dyndns.org?
- Posted by enoesque73@yahoo.co.uk on October 27th, 2006
Hi,
I'm moving to an ISP who won't give me a static ip address.
I currently have a domain, (e.g.) mydomain.com which I can access using
that name. I also have several friends and colleagues who access this
domain.
I'm aware that I could get mydomain.dyndns.org and use that instead,
but is there a way of pointing mydomain.com to mydomain.dyndns.org and
have the dyndns bit be transparent?
I currently used ZoneEdit to point mydomain.com to my Static IP
address, but this must use a numeric ip address.
Thanks in advance
eno

Thanks for your reply John, but I don't understand.
Where is the zonefile? And what is the A-record.

Thanks again for that John, you've already helped me enough.
Cheers

After a brief look at ZoneEdit, it looks like I might be able to do
everthing through them.
Apparently, one of their clients, installed as a service on my server,
will directly update the IP address in the ZoneEdit account - no need
for DynDNS!
I'd initially thought of dyndns because my Belkin Pre-N Router has a
specific setting for DynDNS in it.

For reference, you can do exactly the same with dyndns, who, as far as
I can see, offer essentially the same service.
Yeah, mine too. I have two domains on the same IP though, so it was
easier to use ddclient on my linux server.
