- How fast is broadband on the Clitheroe Exchange?

Hi,
How fast is your broadband on the Clitheroe Exchange?
If you have the time please could you run this test on your
connection
if you are on the Clitheroe 01200 Exchange:
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html
and post the reported speed?
I've tested my www.plus.net broadband connection. Its supposed to be
8Mbit but I'm getting 2-3Mbit:
http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedt...807625080.html
I am based within 300 yards of the exchange so I hoped it would be
quicker.

There shouldn't in principle be a speed problem specific to any exchange.
Your best bet to troubleshoot this is to start by going to
http://speedtester.bt.com
Fill in the appropriate boxes (and be patient, it can be very slow to respond and
may need more than one attempt for it to run) and it will eventually tell you
your *IP profile*. That's the speed your equipment is physically capable of
delivering under ideal circumstances with YOUR connection..
Here's an example of my most recent result .....
"Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 6199 kbps"
"IP profile" is the theoretical maximum data speed.
"DSL connection rate" is the speed at which your modem/router synchronises with
the DSLAM at the exchange. 8128 kbps is the maximum possible.
"Actual IP throughput" is a test of the 'real world' data rate you might expect.
Also, if you know how to, check your modem/router's status page for details of
the synchronisation speed, line attenuation and signal-to-noise-ratio margin.
All bets are off until you have that info.
Individual speedtesters can report VERY different results but here's one I
strongly recommend.
http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/
A poorer than expected result here (see IP profile results) most likely involves
problems with your ISP.

Hi Graham,
Thanks for replying. Have run the tests. Please could you help me
interperate the numbers below?
I went to http://speedtester.bt.com and it says:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background
information.
IP profile for your line is - 6500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 2277 kbps
D-link DSL-320T modem/router's status page for details of
the synchronisation speed, line attenuation and signal-to-noise-ratio
margin:
Line State Connected
Modulation ADSL_G.dmt
Annex Mode ANNEX_A
Max Tx Power -38 dBm/Hz
Item Downstream Upstream Unit
SNR Margin 12 27 dB
Line Attenuation 14 8 dB
Data Rate 8128 448 kbps
http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/ gives:
Download Speed: 2484 kbps (310.5 KB/sec ) Upload Speed: 379 kbps
(47.4 KB/sec )
Thanks for any advice.

Hi,
If you want to give me your account username or a ticket number from
your account I'll have a look from here and make sure there is nothing
from our side causing problems.
