How to find out about LLU?
Posted by Chris on June 17th, 2007

How can I discover which companies have LLU on our exchange?
SamKnows perhaps does not know - because there have been inconsistent
results on there.

I would like to know what companies have their equipment installed - and
what is planned for the near future.

If any BT Openreach engineers are reading this - and would like to help
- the exchange is EMBOSTO.

If Sam knows doesn't know, contact BT directly and they will tell you.

Thanks for such a rapid response!
The ordinary 151 is OK, is it?

We haven't been LLU'd in Boston yet and no idea when we will be.

I'm sure if you asked an LLU supplier about BT services they would tell you
to contact BT.
So why expect BT to provide info for their competitors.

This will give you chapter and verse. It was working OK when I tried it just
now.

The bad news is there is no unbundling and probably never will be.

Thanks for your reply, Peter, although what you say contradicts a phone
call I had a few minutes ago from a local BT Openreach engineer, who
said that nearly all the jobs he gets are LLU jobs.
He said he is not allowed to tell me which companies have their LLU
equipment at the exchange - and suggested I ring the ISPs that I'm
interested in - and ask them.
What he says implies that the information on the SamKnows site is
incorrect.

AIUI the information on the site is issued by BT on a regular (Weekly?)

As far as Openreach are concerned, ALL jobs are LLU jobs, even those

OK - understood. Is there then any way to find out what companies have
their gear at the exchange?
Am I right in thinking tat I would pay far less if I went for an LLU
provider for a phone-Internet bundle?

Only if they tell you - samknows.com may know.

You might, it really depends on what packages various companies are
offering. You should also note that different companies will have
different deals/restrictions on telephony and internet products, and
some companies may have relatively long minimum terms.
