How long does it take to activate?
Posted by Goyan on September 15th, 2003

F2S said it is going to take about a week for the ADSL to be activated. I
subscribe the Home User 500 plan. Does it really need to take that long?

Thanks

claimed that it took 14 days to get it back on! it was 14 days to the
minute so i guess it's just one of their teeny regulations!

It all depends on where you are, and where the BT engineers are. When we
got ADSL at home it only took 3 or 4 days for it to be up and working, i've
just ordered it for a student house i'll be moving in to next week and it
says 7-10 days. Unfortunately theres no way to tell except to wait for the
e-mail/phone call or whatever to say its connected.
If you estimate a week or two, then that should be about right.
I have to say though, BT are much quicker in reconnecting phone lines - 35
minutes from the phone call until the phone was working!

Chuckle chuckle.

I'm glad F2S can predict the workload of others. It works on (1) priority
(2) jobs in the queue. It's a 'wait your turn' set up. In any given area
there are a handful of exchange engineers working, and in amoungst all there
normal tasks like line/isdn/dacs/pw/redcare jobs they now have extra ADSL
activation tasks. The truth is they are rushed off their feet. The job will
probably get done a little earlier as the dates quoted by BT are 'provide
by' dates (required by).

I remember my own activation with plusnet. I physically jumpered up my own
equipment in the exchange and contacted Plusnet with my BT staff hat on the
SP contact number. 5 Days later they did their bit claiming to have been
waiting on BT - which I absolutely knew was an utter lie. Funny thing was
they took the money quick enough............

To get all the different departments their paper work & for them to do

reported synch days earlier but not being able to browse as the

You may be lucky & get it ealier but don't count on it...

I was going to use ZEN before, so I called and ask. They told me the ADSL
can be activated in 3 working days.... Since ZEN and F2S are bothing
running based on BT, why the difference?

Thanks

Possibly ZEN can sort out there end 2 days quicker (remember it's
effectivley a 5 day week when it comes to DSL work, except when the
field/exchange staff are playing catch up then anything goes)...

What I can tell you is the actual exchange jumpering is the
simplest/easiest bit to do...

Hi,

It's normally about that, but I think they just say that to be on the
safe side to be honest, most, but not all Freedom2Surf customers get
activated earlier than their actual activation date, so the best thing
to do is just try a few days before your activation date and see what
happens.

Kind Regards,
