- Posted by video.doctor@blueyonder.co.uk on July 9th, 2007
Hi,I am installing freeserve, wanadoo, orange (what ever their called
now) on a fresh installation of windows xp.
The person i am installing it for has lost the installation cd.I have
managed to download the drivers for the speedtouch 330 modem and can
possibly set up the connection manually.I have the username and
password but i don't know what number to dial.I have often seen the
number to be '0'.Can anyone confirm the number to dial and also if
theres anywhere i can download the installation cd from?
Thanks

I never use ISPs CDs (except for the USB modem driver bit)
They set all sorts of branding, IE favourites and defaults etc.
The DUN phone number probebly can be anything.
Some modems appear to pass the VPI VCI in the phone number field so
0,38 is seen sometimes.
Its a long time since i set up a USB modem. but Sagem modem I
had from Tiscali had adsl in the phone number field.

I found this...
You can get a replacement CD from:
http://www.speedtouchonline.com/CD41.asp
The number appears to be 0

To avoid using the ISP's CD I found and downloaded the drivers for a

The Speedtouch 300 is an ADSL USB modem.
ADSL modems do not dial phone numbers
ADSL modems often do use Windows dial-up Networking (DUN)
to initiate a connection and pass the username and password.
What the OP really wanted to know, was what to put in the
phone number field, not the number of Orange dial-up.
Maybe that would have been obvious to you too, if you knew
what a Speedtouch 300 was.

By reading what has been posted. Something which you have singularly
failed to do.
I suspect that to be a lie. In fact, you have clearly demonstrated that
you do not.
Graham is correct. You are not.

DO NOT and I mean DO NOT use the CD.
Just set up the DUN and Mail manually only takes 5 - 10 mins, trust me you
are asking for problems using the CD.

Why would he need any drivers at all..? I've never had to install any just
to connect. Plug in the Ethernet cable to the router, ensure you've got an
IP address and away you go.

Read the post, Ivor. Particularly the bit where he says "Speedtouch 330
modem". NOT a router, and it DOES need drivers (which "Jon" failed to
notice he'd already downloadec anyway).

Ok, I missed that. Well there you go. If anyone is daft enough to want to
use one of those things then more fool them. To the OP - forget it and get
a proper modem/router and connect PC's via Ethernet. Far easier, quicker
and less hassle.

You're not necessarily right, either. For the OP, the Speedtouch may be
perfectlt serviceable. You snipped the bit where I said I couldn't use
one anyway because I don't run Windows.
