Thanks, that would certainly explain it. According to Sam knows, my local
exchange has Tiscali LLU kit, and when I run the speed test
http://www.speedtest.net/ it tells me my ISP is Tiscali.

Just move - I had similar problems with Pip/Tisc and it got silly ...like
you after several good years and paying over-the-odds. Rubbish service,
passing the buck, awful technical help, etc.etc. Never actually sorted the
problem.

It's a pain changing your email address, subscriptions, sites, etc., but
worth it in the end.

Get your MAC and do it today!

Good luck, Barb.

Good advice. I do object to giving them £67 for breaking my renewed
contract though. It'll be that alone which keeps me hanging on for a
while.

Mind you, with about £10 in phone calls already this week, cutting my
losses and running might be the better option. :-)

Don't forget the £47 migration charge to go from Tiscali LLU back to BT
which most ISPs will charge you. Idnet don't as far as I remember but they
were £5 a month more expensive than ADSL24.

Indeed Idnet do not charge this fee. Nor do they tie you to a fixed contract.

Buy your own co.uk domain and never have the hassle again.

Whatever do you, don't buy it through your ISP, though; go to a domain
name specialist. Personally, I use NamesCo and /if/ you're happy to
give me a referral it's http://www.names.co.uk/?affiliate=97404.
Otherwise take a look around yourself. Good luck!

Another useful suggestion, though it's one I've ignored in the past
because it adds another layer to the potential problems... especially
when it comes to getting phone support.

But it's definitely something to consider this time, because with the
additional potential problems you also get additional definite benefits.

I don't think I've ever had a problem with email delivery via any of
the domains I've bought. Neither has any of my friends/colleagues that
use NamesCo. (I can't speak for other providers.)

Exactly. You're contrasing /potential/ problems with /definite/
benefits.

Worst case when trying to debug missing email problems: you temporarily
change the forwarding address(es) for your domain from your own
ISP-generated one to a friend's one at a different ISP. S/He then
tells you (not by email!) when/if emails arrive. Compare, contrast,
and conclude.

Chris

I couldn't agree more.

Incidentally, reasonable ISPs don't terminate your old email account when you
leave. I still have my old freeuk and plusnet accounts active.

Email me. My brother-in-law deals with this kind of stuff. Yes, he charges a
little more than minimum you can buy it for if you know what you're doing
but he will do the hand holding for you. He can even host an entire site for
you if you like and be competitive too.

I left Pipex over a month ago, and my email is still there - loads of spam
now, but still there. Which gave me time to pick up and change the remnants
of my online life!

Good point. In fact you reminded me to check my Freeserve account (from
my pre-Pipex days!)

And thanks for the suggestion about your brother-in-law. I'll bear it in
mind.

Heh, I moved from Pipex in June 2006. I've just tried loging into my old
