- Managed Installation
- Posted by John A Calder on February 16th, 2004
Hi
I've been lurking for a while and just need some clarification.
I am with Fireflyuk on dialup and would like to take up their 512k BB
service, and they have asked me to arrange for BT to remove the ISDN HH
service that I am using at present.
On talking to BT Broadband they say they will come and do the conversion
only if I go with them but that if I am using another ISP then they
would put me on to BT HH, which they did. When speaking to BT HH they
informed me that they would only come and remove the box and revert the
line to PSTN but would not check if an ADSL connection would be usable.
This seems to me to be risky as if for some reason I couldn't receive
ADSL then I would have to pay for the re-instatement of HH.
So finally <sorry:-)) my question is would a Managed Installation get
round this. I realise I would have to pay for the removal of the ISDN
lines etc.
All the checks I have carried out say that I should be able to receive
up to a 2mb connection.
TIA

Some ISPs - including PlusNet will arrange a managed conversion. If all goes
well, you pay the UKP50 conversion fee to BT. If ADSL doesn't work, HH is
re-instated with nothing to pay.
I've no idea whether Fireflyuk (of whom I've never heard!) offer a managed
conversion - not all ISPs do. If not, you could switch to one which does.
[I'm facing a similar problem, and will probably switch from Freeserve to
PlusNet when I finally bite the bullet].

Thanks for the reply Tim.
It's as I thought, I will get in touch with Fireflyuk and let them know
that I would be prepared to switch ISP's if they are not willing to do a
managed conversion.
