A Meldrew moment for Zen
Posted by Gordon Henderson on May 9th, 2007

I have to say, I'm a happy Zen customer. Their network, and technical
support excellent, but their billing & presumably admin department seem
to be suffering from the onset of senility...

I recently had TWO letters inviting me to convert to direct debit. both
on the same day, the the same address, same account code, etc.

I was previously paying by monthly credit card, which has just expired, so
I went ahead and signed up for DD. No issues there, it all "just worked".

Got a "Renewal Notice" today:

FOR INFORMATION ONLY
YOUR PAYMENT WILL BE COLLECTED BY DIRECT DEBIT
...
Your payment will be collected by Direct Debit on, or shortly after, the
renewal date.

Excellent. The system is working....

But further down in the SAME email:

We now offer the facility to make payment by Direct Debit, and if you
convert your payment method to Direct Debit between April 1st and June 30th
you will be entered into a FREE PRIZE DRAW.

I don't believe it!

Oh I'm very happy with them - just poking a bit of fun at them as
something somewhere has gone a bit odd in the interface between their
billing & marketing department ;-)

I am happy too but they have another glitch that they know about.

When you credit card end date is close they send you an email to update
details, fine you click the link and everything is OK.

But the flaw is they then charge you twice that month but nothing the next
month so it works out right in the end.
