More slow speed from BT Broadband
Posted by Starman2112 on June 6th, 2008

....am on BT Broadband (option 3 package).

Have found that BT Broadband download speed has gone down drastically in the
last 24 to 48 hours. Comparable, at times, to the old dial-up speeds.

Anyone else?

Clarification:

1) ADSL is plugged into master socket
2) No extension wiring of any type
3) ADSL filter is original BT one
4) Have tried replugging, new ADSL filter, rebooting firmware and power
cycling router, etc, all to no avail.

What sync speed does your router report. ? This is critical. (also attenuation

Go to your routers control panel, note your sync
speed, attenuation, SNR Signal Noise Ratio.
Post them here, along with the ones from
when it was first installed, and was faster.
Then we can comment on the difference between
the two sets of figures, and suggest what might
be causing the lower speed.
If the attenuation has changed it would suggest a
physical line fault such as a dry joint.
If the SNR has changed it might be due to
a local noise source, in which case it
may or may not be, time of day dependent.
If it is time of day dependent then there is
a possibility of correlating this with a particular
source.
If not time of day sensitive, tracking noise
sources down needs a different approach.
But until you give some figures there is
nothing to go on.

My Bt Broadband download speed (in Derbyshire) dropped to 0.5Mbps yesterday
but is back up to 6.3Mbps today.
