need a router recommendation
Posted by Alan on October 1st, 2004

Hi folks

my farther-in-law is struggling with a router he bought from a local
computer shop. He's actually quite a competent PC user but has had no joy
getting the router to work.

He's running Win XP and has a wires only ADSL service with an Alcatel
speedtouch modem. Can someone recommend an easy-to-configure router which
will pretty much work out of the box?

many thanks

I've got a Linksys here - WAG54G - router, modem, firewall with 4 port switch, plus
wireless; and it works beautifully striaght out of the box.

Well before he splashes out on a new one, maybe if you explain the problem
someone here can try and help?

I would agree with that. I found my Speedtouch 510 very easy to get
working. I purchased the unit from the shop linked to the Speedtouch web
site.
