Lucky you DG834 guys, I might as well chuck my DG814 in the bin. It's not
even heavy enough to use as a doorstop for god sakes (much less handling UDP
packets)!!!!!
I wish Netgear would comit some time to fixing this product, surely it can't
be that hard? Start by taking all the cheepo graphics and "pretty" colors
out of the web interface to free up some memory????

My Origo ASR-8400 router cost half as much and does the job twice as well
and even does some things that Netgear routers won't do :-) (And all the
material is available on the net to program it myself, can't even find out
whats inside a Netgear)

Death to Netgear!!

-Lawrence.

I'd like to echo both those sentiments - I was told there was an update
coming and searched the Netgear site last week, but failed to find it.
If only they were as good at writing software as they are at hiding
patches.

Which version firmware do you have for the DG814 ?

Just looked and it seems that Netgear have released v4.10
(http://kbserver.netgear.com/support_...asp?dnldID=654) which may help
you.

I had thought that v4.9 was the latest but this was released on the
19/03/04 - though I do see a thread about v4.10 dated the 30/3/04 in
uk.telecom.broadband that I had forgotten about...

No new features, just bug fixes

Sunil

This is the most important feature for me. Is it fixed in 1.04 ?

Well I must admit to having looked carefully and using my link to Netgears
site and going from there. It seems Kocha but you are bound to ask why not
the 31st March or the 2ns April don't you? So far so good with 1.04

I would assume so as it was a "Known Issue" in the previous version but
hopefully one of the other posters on this thread, can confirm it..

I don't actually have a DG834/G myself....

Paul, this is the most important feature for me. Are you in a position
to advise if it is fixed in 1.04 ?

Hi FR

No, sorry don't have any by schedule, just one ftp rule by IP no. to "allow
always" - it was enabled at the time I uploaded the new firmware and stayed
intact afterwards although I've since disabled the rule.

Not sure if this helps

I'm currently on: V4.9 Dec. 2, 2003

I didn't see V4.10, but if all they can be bothered to fix is two things,
one to do with Bellsouth whom no one uses (and PPPOE which no one uses) and
the other to do with peer-to-peer apps, of which there are very few then I
don't think I can be bothered to risk upgrading.

I can however be bothered with auctioning my router on eBay and buying a
decent Origo ASR-8400 :-)

I've tried every firmware with various degrees of success, 4.7: UDP worked
fine, VPN didn't, 4.8: everything went to pot, 4.9 most things work except
UDP occasionally. I give up with Netgear.

To Netgear: Get a grip and finish the job you started.

My DG834 has functioned properly since day one. A friend's GD834g the
same. Also I recently installed a wireless network elsewhere using a
WGT624 cable router which is running well. All have upgraded firmware
with no problems.

What issues/problems did you have with Netgear products?

The software wouldn't load properly, then wouldn't unload either, telephone
support in India completely useless.
Loaded software on other machine but nothing worked anyway.
Borrowed a Zoom X4 modem and had it working in five minutes.
Netgear conceded the hardware was duff, so I returned it.
Wasted a weeks worth of my free time.
Have been following this and alt.internet.wireless since May and most
complaints are about Netgear and their dodgy firmware upgrades.

Bought Draytek Vigor 2600We, installed it in 15 mins and haven't touched it
since May.

Martin

I would agree with the support problem! I did have an installation
problem which caused me to ring them. The cause was actually the network
card in my machine, nothing wrong with it, just that the PC had a
problem with it being in that particular PCI slot. Needless to say, the
guy at the other end couldn't guess that one.

Which Netgear product was it? I didn't have to install software on a PC
for any of the Modem/Routers I've installed. All configuration was made
in the Routers. Was yours an internal modem?

Best regards,

Chris

This is revised firmware which Netgear can issue via the support section
of www.netgear.com - you download it to your PC and the router has a web-page
to trigger an upload.

I never mentioned DG834. The OP asked what problems I had with Netgear.
The software was for setting up and USB access to DM602 ADSL modem.

Martin
