Where is the cheapist supplier in uk. Usually go with Overclockers or Dabs,
never had a problem with either but their pricing is high compared to
others.

Well.. not what you asked by the Belkin 7630 seems to be a lot cheaper atm
(from around £70) - it was previously much more expensive than the Netgear
834G but has come down a lot in the last week.

As for the DG834G try Ebuyer or Amazon - Amazon is cheaper if you take into
account their free shipping at just over £93

Do you know of anything in particular ?

I hadn't heard many complaints about the 7630 after Belkin updated the
firmware in late january.. all the complaints seem to predate this or they
are still running the old firmware...

if you read the reviews/forums carefully you'll see that a fair few people
had problems upgrading the firmware, you'll also noticed that they all
attempted to do this over the wireless link, rather than a wired link, which
would strike me as a particularly dumb thing to try and do. I haven't yet
seen anyone that upgraded the unit via a wired link have a problem... in any
case netgear have now released software to allow you to remedy the problem
yourself.

See my note re the problems in the reply to "ferg".

I've just ordered mine from www.microwarehouse.co.uk - about the same price
as amazon but check out their PCI /PCMCIA card ( & the USB adapter ) prices,
the only people that came close were the dreaded ebuyer.
I bought the 834G, a PCi card, a PCMCIA card and a USB adapter, with next
day delivery came to £213, Ebuyer were less than a pound cheaper.

Yes, I'm not sure if "ferg" meant to say Netgear instead of Belkin?

There have been a lot more complaints about Netgear equipment (inc the
DG834G) for various reasons compared to the Belkin 7630 - just read this
newsgroup..!

The Belkin's problems seem to have been largely resolved by their firmware
update in January..

Netgear is *VERY* polarized - perhaps as its very popular. A *few* people
have had problems (but mainly with the 814 model) and some of these are
extremely vocal. Many others (including me) have had flawless performance.

have had problems fixed by latest belkin firmware
I am more concerned however at the number of netgear DG834G modems being
rendered lifeless by firmware upgrades
,I had ordered the 3com modem/router but where I ordered its out of stock
for another week so ive just ordered the Belkin
unit myself after rechecking reviews, £77 delivered to n.ireland is a
pretty good deal,I also rang belkin twice today and got through straight
away
on an 0800 number and they offered some great advice which made my mind up
to go for Belkin

Does the Belkin also offer the wireless access point feature like the
Netgear modem??

I'm looking for the complete solution out of the box which the Netgear seems
to be. However, does the Belkin offer all the same features??

Thanks

Yes, the Belkin 7630 contains both a Wireless Access Point and a ADSL
modem/router - in the same unit.

The features of both the Belkin and the Negear appear very similar.. - with
the Belkin now cheaper (from around £70) and coming with free lifetime
technical support..

Yes, I've just ordered the Belkin 7630 as well - @ less than <£71 delivered
for me, it seems like a good deal and I am quite happy with the Belkin 54G
PCI cards I alredy have..

Lik you, it was a toss up between the Belkin and the Netgear but with all
these problems various people are reporting with the DG834G - I thought it
best to avoid that.

I had considered the USR 9106/3Com models which seem to have been reviewed
quite favourably (though only recently released) but I think they tend to
come with a "free" laptop WiFi PC Card which I don't need..

We will see if we have made the right choice soon, I guess

stock, guy at belkin warned me about that particular USB adaptor model as it
was USB 1 so apparently not as good as an internal pci wireless card, also
for some reason the belkin weighs approx 40 percent more than the 3com so
must be a good solid design, btw Sunil where did you purchase your belkin?

http://www.ebuyer.com/ for £70.74

I had a "free shipping" voucher to use up so didn't face any P&P charges..
