The wireless part occasionally stops working and I have to power cycle the
router to get it going again.Anyone else had this problem?

You are not alone! Since upgrading (?) to v1.04.01 firmware, my router has
been having the same problem - WLAN fails, typically after a few hours of no
active wireless use, sometimes even the WLAN light goes out. Power cycle or
reboot usually cures it. I have known the router to fail to respond on the
web interface, too and needs a power cycle
to re-start. (Neither of these problems occurred on v1.03.xx)

There is at least one other bug - if I add an inbound rule to log all
traffic, ftp fails to connect.

I have emailed NetGear with detailed configuration settings but have not
received any feedback. Let's hope v1.04.02 is out soon.

Andy

Only an eternal optimist would expect YET ANOTHER Netgear firmware version
to work perfectly...

True but it's an interesting challenge to find the bugs (actually, it would
be more interesting if it was more of a challenge. (I know, I really should
get out more.)

Andy

If you are broadcasting SSID then try disabling the broadcast. It worked for
me and at least one other person following the 1.04.01 upgrade..

Thanks, I'll give that a try...

I'd heard that elsewhere - unfortunately, I've not been broadcasting SSID
from day one. I'm using 128 bit WEP with shared key - dunno whether that
makes a difference.

Cheers,
Andy

I found things to be better since I loaded firmware 1.04.01 - before it
was failing about once an hour, now only once every few hours. I'm
still not sure whether there's a hardware fault or not, to try to get a
replacement, but it looks like a widespread fault.

Well I wouldn't advise that. I started out with a DG834G which worked
perfectly for several weeks, then I decided to disable SSID. That was
when my problems started, and they are not yet solved, even though I
have got new firmware, and reenabled SSID broadcast. But who knows,
that could have been a coincidence.

I tried disabling the broadcast SSID and it did'nt make any difference the
WLAN still hangs. There's something amiss with v1.4.01 so I've gone back to
v1.03 and everything seems ok up to now. I'm waiting for the next Netgear
release....but if previous updates are anything to go by...may get another
set of bugs!
