Net users in London are to be offered broadband at speeds up to 24 meg as part
of ambitious plans by a new UK ISP.
Privately funded Be Unlimited is a new local loop unbundling (LLU) operator
that is installing its kit in BT telephone exchanges to provide broadband
direct to end users.

available"
Nice - for years companies have been drip feeding us speed / capability
increases to maximise their revenue (Processors, CD / DVD drives), and now
someone comes in and gives it both barrels!
They should get loads of customers if the price is not too high, and force
other operators to catch up fast.

New generation of modem's/routers needed for higher speeds? (Is not
current spec. limited to to 8mB?) If so, they won't be cheap until the
higher speeds are available nationally

I believe so, 8.6Mb tops - a few years back (when adsl was new to the UK) I
saw this running 'full speed' on a test setup - wow, blew my socks off!
Later we were offered 2Mb at a premium! (512k for the plebs).
