The subjects says exactly what the message contained, the changes affect
existing pipex users and so is of great interest to many reading this
group.

So no it isn't advertising spam, and you are a dipshit for opening the box
which contained exactly what it said on the label and double dipshit for
quoting it all again.

That doesn't really help their current 512 customers who cannot be upgraded
though. Seems like their pricing is a bit ill thought out.

No more so than many other ISP's who are also repsonding to the change in
charging from BT.

PN are offering 512KB 1MB & 2MB at the same price on most of their packages.
I know I can't have 2 MB but so what, it's the luck of the postcode lottery
& if I was that bothered I'd upsticks & move, but there's more to life than
getting green eyed just because somebody else can get a faster connection
than me at the same price as what I'm paying...

So what do the current 512 pipex customers do? Are they to be left without
service because pipex are not doing 512 ? Or have Pipex just failed to list
the prices for that service?
That is the problem, the current customers on 512 and cannot be upgraded may
have nowhere to turn and will be unsure as to how their service is to be
handled.

its £23.44 per month as normal accept or migrate, your choice.

My experiences - 100% service, but I can save £100 a year, should I risk it?

If I go to a provider with a 1 month tie in at least I can go back to
Pipex and claim a free holiday ;o)

but can you get the same connection at £50-£100 less? Thats what those
who cannot get the 1Mb connection are asking.

I think you are missing the point. If pipex have not allowed for the 512
service customers then they have no choice other than migrate and they will
be losing out on customers. Those customers may be forced to move if pipex
are no longer offering a 512 service because not everyone will be able to
upgrade. Now this is either a very short sighted move by pipex, or its
simply an error and they have forgotten to include the 512 service in the
new pricing tables.

Thus spaketh Beck:
If you can only get 512k service then that is what you get.

They won't say oh you can't get 1024 or 2048 goodbye!

So where is it on their pricing structure?

johnydeath wrote:
Theoretically - yes

ADSL4Less offer the same for £14.99 a month plus a one off £14.99
migration fee.

Practically - I dont know until I try their service.

I am under the impression that it is a 1Mb 'maximum' and that if you
cannot meet the technical criteria to upgrade they still provide the
512k service. This is what others offer.

I'll have to ring later to confirm. I can see a MAC code coming my way
in either instance.

So by my reading, you'll get 1Mb for £23.44, but if your line can't support
1Mb, you'll continue on 512Kb also at £23.44

Thus spaketh Pete:
Yes this is indeed the case, if you enter details as if signing up as a new
customer, after you have selected the speed you want, there is a box to tick
that says something along the lines "If your line in not capable of the speed
selected, you are happy for Pipex to continue with the order with a speed your
line is capable of".

I am hoping that is the case. It doesn't affect me of course as I do not
use them, but am asking all of this on behalf of a friend who is currently
7km from the exchange. He can get 512 service and has been concerned about
the lack of information on the pricing structure.
Pipex should have put "up to 1mb" on it though so not to cause any
confusion.
