New router to replace my crappy BT Voyager 100 adsl modem..
Posted by huLLy on March 3rd, 2004

I've opted for the Zoom X5, which is a adsl modem/router/firewall and 4 port
ethernet all in one. This i can connect to my wireless network and share my
equally crappy (gameswise) 1 meg AOL adsl connection around the house.

Does anyone have any experience of these beasts?

Aren't AOL "funny" about people trying to "do their own thing" with regards
to "their" (AOLs) network?

I thought that AOL used a proprietary protocol, hence the need for their
own, specific, ADSL modem.

It could be that they've grown to realise that people want to command their
own networks - and have relented somewhat.

Anyone care to comment?
