NTL cable dropouts ..
Posted by T i m on October 25th, 2006

Hi All,

I'm not sure if this has been covered so in case it helps anyone
...(sorry if it has)

I have neen noticing of late my normally solid NTL cable BB connection
has been dropping out for a few seconds every now and again (not
notivced and real pattern yet). Friends on NTL had seen similar and
the problem had been 'cured' be an NTL engineer fitting a higher value
attenuator between the line and the cable modem.

I tried doing the same myself a couple of days ago (6db now 10db) and
it now seems solid again.

Typically whan you ring NTL they try to take you through the normal
stuff (restart the modem, re-install XP, remove yer router etc) but if
you keep repeating 'done that' and 'attenuator' they seem to give in
and just come and sort it. ;-)

I have the old Teyaron modem and they symptoms were the 'Cable' LED
going out then taking a few seconds flashing before going solid again.
Similar I think on the silver modems except it's the sync LED or
similar (one of the right hand pair anyway).

All the best ..

T i m
