Poster wants to know if payment by postal order is acceptable to NTL.

I think the answer is no.

If poster can get NTL to provide a "paying in" book then cash over the
counter is an alternative. But getting a firm to provide such books is
very rare now - they greet such requests with suspicion.

don't they do a payment card like BT have for their phone accounts? I'm
sure a friend of mine pays his that way (must ask him later...)

No you can't for Broadband. You can for telephone, and payment cards are
also there for telephone, however not for broadband.

direct debit is where you have a current account at a "bank" and give
the number, sort code etc to the provider (NTL) and then NTL take
money out of the bank account when bills are due to be paid.

I always have a paper bill - and then pay via my on-line bank. This way I am
in charge of how much I pay, and when. Never had any problems.
