- NTLworld newsgroups closed, Virginmedia news server AWOL
- Posted by Frazer Jolly Goodfellow on March 13th, 2007
This evening the ntlworld branded newsgroups on
text.news.ntlworld.com are showing this message:
"This newsgroup has now been closed as its purpose is now served
by the new virginmedia.discussion.broadband newsgroup. If you
are not already subscribed to this group, please refresh your
newsgroup list and you should be able to add it accordingly.
Regards,
The team at Virgin Media "
However, the replacement servers, news.cable.virginmedia.com and
news.virginmedia.com, aren't reachable for me.
<sigh>
Are they working for anyone else?

I'm still using the text.news.ntlworld.com server and I can see the new
newsgroups ok. So I would just keep with the text.news.ntl.......

Just keep to the server you are using now and refresh the list, there
are many xNTL posts on there.
text.news.virginmedia.com is the one I'm now using, this for me just
points to the old blueyonder service, not sure if it would point to the
old ntl service on xNTL.

I can ping text.news.ntlworld.com OK, but can't see any virgin
groups on that server. Pinging news.cable.virginmedia.com returns
'could not find host' responses. Looks like a delay in DNS updates
reaching this part of the galaxy (South Manchester, SK12).

They haven't - might be worth refreshing the newsgroup lists if any
issues.

the newsgroups list from the ntlworld server and hence found the VM
groups.
In trying to sort it I was misled by this Google hit:
http://www.virginmedia.com/toolsservices/newsgroups/
.... which appears now to be a case of premature e-publication :-)
