O2 Broadband - no Newsgroups?
Posted by Virginner on November 19th, 2007

Just spoken to O2 re: their broadband service - and it seems they have no
newsservers (or, at least the sales dept said they hadn't - but she didn't
seem all that sure).

Anyone know more?

Not a problem. A $10 single payment non-expiring 25GB subscription to astraweb

Yes, that is correct. O2 and Be do not provide newsgroups

I use a freebie, nntp.aioe.org

Thanks for the confirmation. It was just that the "sales" person was very
unsure (to begin with I was not convinced she knew what newsgroups were ;-).
As O2 they are offering an ADSL deal that's £10 cheaper than VM for what
seems to be the same offering (bar NGs), and an 0800 UK support number I
don't think there's any reason not be requesting my MAC...

Thanks to you and all.

And this one

Only 10 euros a *year*
I've used it for years. Very fast and reliable.

Too early to say yet.
Seen evidence of congestion, but TBH it's not that bad and Be do sort things
fairly quickly - they claimed recently they are monitoring things more
actively, so we'll just have to wait and see on that one
I could benefit financially being a O2 contract customer, but I choose to
stay with Be certainly at the moment. They offer a more personalised
approach which I prefer with a good community on the official forums, static
IP's are now free on Be Unlimited (for 1 anyway) and I don't have to put up
with a locked down router (I actually am quite attached to the BeBox and
have grown more than accustomed to it's many foibles)
