OT: Cheapest/best place to register a .co.uk domain?
Posted by Tony on June 21st, 2004

Sorry this is Off Topic, but can anyone help?

I am looking to register a doamin name (.co.uk) and would like to know if
anyone recommends a good company in the UK. I don't need any webspace, but
need to be able to forward the doamin name to a site that already exists.
Thanks...

How much will it cost on average for a .co.uk these days, and who is the
best?

T

I ashould also add that the only reason I left was that I'm now running
my own DNS for the domains concerned.

I'm shocked ! I run paperless here, and last time I wanted a change they
needed me to print a form and fax it to them. Maybe they are learning to
make life easier for end users, as I understand they do now (finally!)
allow DNS for .co.uk to be modified which they used to offer only for
..com/org/info domains. Peter M.

Transfer out is free on 123-reg.co.uk, ukreg.com and from memory

nameroute.co.uk (which offers some webspace + POP mail, or mail
forwarding, in their higher fee - 14 inc VAT). Peter M.

They did want that...but I have no objection to that...it was still

OK, I looked in again and see that DNS changes for .uk domains* are now
via their web panel - though a change I submitted 90+ minutes ago has
not yet been reflected on Nominet's whois, where other firms seem to
get this done within 20 (but could be Nominet, of course) - but I've
used other services where an IPSTAG change is also via the web panel
and I don't consider print/fax easy, but can agree to differ :-) PGM

* if not a .uk domain you need to send them e-mail to request change.

No, feel for the people who might have used easily.co.uk or maybe
just-the-name.co.uk (9.99 inc VAT) or maybe bargaindomains.co.uk,
which seems to charge a tenner (+VAT) each year [they offer you
webspace - wow! 1 MB. I've used Nameroute.co.uk which charges
14 [inc VAT] for 2 years, but at least gave 10 MB of space !]
