OT: Spam mail filter for Outlook Express
Posted by Trent SC on May 19th, 2008

I'm looking (on behalf of a friend) for a spam filter for her Outlook
Express. The key is that it needs to operate without any real involvement
or intervention from her part - she's blind and has very limited abilities
in terms of using a computer. She's managed to get used to the absolute
basics, but would rather not introduce another layer of complexity into the
process.

We've talked about changing ISPs or addresses, but she's reluctant at this
stage, hence my enquiry.

While I know there are many options available and GIMF, I'd rather get
recommendations to start with.

Cheers

: account, collect mail (less spam) from Google Mailbox.

Yep, that's what I do. Works a treat, traps at least 150 spam messages a
day..!

:
: Yes this works but it makes sense to pick the googlemail up by pop3
: and keep the smtp set as it is to make everything transparent to her.
:
: Then her outgoing posts look just as they always did, her incoming
: ones get filtered at Goggle and she only has to create the googlemail
: account and change her popserver, port and authentication in her mail
: client.

And set up the Google account for POP3 (or better still IMAP) as it
doesn't allow this access by default.
