- OT: web and mail forwarding
- Posted by Dr Teeth on March 24th, 2005
I currently have my domain with 'theName' and their service has
declined since I first joined them. 75p/min for phone support goes
some way to explaining why the other avenues of contact are
ineffective!
Any recommendations for a simple mail and web forwarding company?
Preferably one that lets you change your redirection yourself rather
than having to email and ask for it.
TIA.

I would strongly advise against uk2! A nightmare to deal with. I transferred
several domains to www.oneandone.co.uk and they are infinitely better. Mail
can be re-directed easily, access using various ways - so much better.

Funny, I have the opposite view. I have a few domains with www.uk2.net and
have been perfectly happy with them. I then got a couple for my wife with
www.oneandone.co.uk who were doing a good price. They never replied to any
queries and debited my account for the renewal even although they were told
not to.
They had the cheek to send me a satisfaction survey on how they dealt with
my recent query. They hadn't even bothered to reply to it!!!

To be fair though, they aren't the only ones who make it less than easy to
stop a renewal. ukreg.com also has a policy of renewing automatically and
if you look at their site on how to cancel, it is 'contact support'. When
I did contact support, they indicated that I should get a reminder by mail
(e-mail) before the renewal. When I explained I had seen none from them,
they seemed to just shrug. 123-reg.co.uk has easy user control over any
renewal. They still show some cancelled domains on my list, but that's
better than having charged me for domains I didn't want renewed, IMO!
If only 123-reg didn't charge a fee to transfer-in I'd move all domains
to them in a shot.
Anyway, nowadays I'd recommend using non .uk domains, because you have a
lot more flexibility with them, no silly Nominet sticking their oar in,
and can transfer them far more easily, and renew for up to 10 years
(and for .info, I've also seen I can register at about 2.00/year so 10
years will only cost ~20 quid, though some don't like .info) Peter M.

Try a commercial news service - from 50 MB/day (once-only fee of < $5 )
up to 1500 MB/day for 6 months $99.95, 600 GB over 6 months $149.75
