OT: web page updates
Posted by TrentSC on July 9th, 2007

Apologies for the OT nature, but I know there are one or two wise heads that
lurk here...

Is there any way to find out when a web page was last updated?

Cheers.

Microsoft Internet Explorer, you can easily determine when a page was
updated last.

1.
Navigate to the page you want to check.

2.
In the Address Bar, type: javascript:alert(document.lastModified)

3.
Press Enter.

At a push, you could always try archive.org - you might be able to
narrow it down to a particular month...

there's no guarantee that the timestamp you get back corresponds to the
time the page was updated, it might be when it was generated, it might
be a fixed time, it might always be "now", or it might be jibberish.

Any halfway decent webpage designer will have a "last updated" message
somewhere on the main page. Even my humble home page has got that.

For future reference, you could try www.changedetection.com which will
email you the next time the page changes.
