- Pipex/other ISP and incoming SMTP mail
- Posted by Paul on October 11th, 2003
Hi,
Just wondered if anyone knew whether Pipex are able to allow incoming mail
via SMTP rather than POP3 or whether you've had good experience with any
other ISP?
Cheers, Paul.

POP3 is the storage side of email, SMTP is the protocol for the delieviery
of email, and they do allow the use of thirs party smtp feeds though I dont
know if they provide this themselves as a seperate package, I know Internet
Central do though its not cheap

PlusNet support SMTP mail delivery and it is a worthwhile option, i tried it
for a bit when their mailservers were screwed as the benefit is that you do
not have to wait three or fours + for your mail as it comes straight to you,
but POP3 is easier and once their mailservers were fixed I went back to
that.
You also have to invest in some mailserver software, Kerio do a nice one!
