How do I do that, out of interest? It's fine now, but when I called up
plusnet, I was told to lodge a fault report. I didn't...

Fine here too- obviously some temporary problem that must have been 'my
fault!'

Stop your PPP session and restart it.

If you're using a USB modem then just disconnect and reconnect. If
you're using a router then either find the stop/start section of its web
interface or just turn it off and on again...

You'll get allocated a gateway when you reconnect. Unfortunately the way
it is set up it doesn't actually 'load balance' but picks at random. If
you're unlucky you might have to disconnect/reconnect a couple of times
to drop onto a 'new' gateway, although I find if one seems broken I tend
to get another one quite easily.

You can check which gateway you are connected to here:

We had some problems with data transfer on one of the gateways last
night, which has now been resolved.

You can find more information on the Service Status page if required.
