Plusnet DNS servers - always problematic
Posted by Madge O'Reene on October 18th, 2005

They seem to fail just about every day (probably more than once, but
certainly whenever I've been at home in the evening) for around 10 to
30 minutes at a time. CS claim no one else has ever reported such
problems, even though for a while I was phoning them every evening for
about two weeks.
So, are there any alternative domain name servers I can use?
Medium-cost ultra-reliable, low-cost fairly reliable or free
better-than-plusnet?

Thanks

A lot of DNS servers are public and will allow any connection to them.

Try any of the following:-

Zen
212.23.8.1
212.23.8.6

MCI/Pipex
158.43.128.1
158.43.192.1
--or--
158.43.240.4
158.43.240.3

Hi,

I've just seen another post in this group about DNS, which of our DNS
servers are you using? There are four

212.159.13.49
212.159.13.50
212.159.6.9
212.159.6.10

Do you have them specified on your router/PC or set to pick up via DHCP.
If you're using the router as a DNS server might be worth specifying them
in the PC's network settings to see if that makes a difference.

Dave,

I've had problems with these Pipex DNS in the past with v slow responses
I'd guess that the Zen ones will be well oiled machines :-)

Plusnet's marketing tag for Broadband Premier: "I need a feature packed service
that's consistently fast, even at peak times.", makes me laugh every time I
read it.

Real class outfit.

Are the Maxwell Brothers directors, I wonder?

Thanks, but I've been through this (many times) on the 'phone to Plus.
I've put the Zen DNS address as an alternative in my router and I'll
see how this behaves over the coming days. As with the poster on the
other thread, I was looking to move to another ISP.
