PPPoA or PPPoE on Voyager 2100
Posted by Ian on November 6th, 2004

Hi,

I've just bought a Voyager 2100 wireless modem and it is working fine
on pppoa setting. Should I change this to pppoe for better connection
? I'm using BTyahoo broadband 1Mb service

thanks
Ian

What change were you hoping for ? extra 2% performance ?

Although BT has indicated that it will/does support PPPoE, I don't know
if this is currently the case. Certainly all that I've read since 2000
has used PPPoA and I'd stick with what works if I were you :-) Peter

be a bad idea... myhome.com is registered to Unilever plc, in the UK.

My Netgear DM602 seems to work fine on either setting (using Wanadoo - ye
gods what a stupid name..!), can't say I've noticed any difference.

Someone want to explain the difference? I'm on Plusnet, which should I
be using on my Draytek Vigor 2600We?

PPPoA is what you want.

Point to Point Protocol is used over ATM

PPPoE is the same over ethernet, as BT use ATM to carry data on ADSL
you end up with PPPoEoA and lose 8 bytes per packet of extra overhead.
