- Pre-ordering 1mb Service
- Posted by Fitzy_bhoy on October 24th, 2003
I read on www.adslguide.org that there was to be a launch of a 1mb service.
Is this available to any exchange that is enabled or is it different
equipment that is needed.
I am waiting for my order to be confirmed by pipex, they say it is in BT's
hands to test the line. The activation date is January 21st, how soon before
this date should I know if I have passed, as I would like to buy a router
and stuff
Cheers
John

The 1MB service will be (well already is) available on every exchange that
has been enabled for ADSL. However, not everyone is able to get it (only
60/70% of the lines) as the line tests are stricter than for the 512K
service.
The line test can't happen until after your exchange has been enabled -
which from the activation date you have given, I guess will be the 14/15
January..
Therefore the line test will probably happen on the 16/17th january and
there is a good chance you will be activated early (say the 17th/20th
January) - unless you are an Home Highway/ISDN --> ADSL conversion in which
case the date given is when you are likely to be converted.

Doesn't really leave much time for a router purchase.
Thanks for answering both questions

If you order the 512K service and later want the 1MB one, BT will retest
your line.
However, as your installation would be an HH-->ADSL conversion just ask the
engineer that comes around for the intial instalation what your dB reading
is.
Also, many routers report these figures as well..
