Problems Installing New Speedtouch 330 Drivers on WinXP SP1
Posted by neurØM^nce® on November 19th, 2003

Trying to install the new version 3.0.0 driver for my Speedtouch 330 USB
ADSL modem on Windows XP pro with SP1, the Installshield freezes with a
reference to phonebook.ini. Driver does not install & I have to close the
Installshield with Windows Task Manager.

Tried many times with same result. System is virus-free.

Is this a new install? Do you have an existing copy of phonebook.ini -
if not you can get one here: http://www.farina1.com/phonebook.ini

I`ve got the v2.0.1.2 drivers online if they`re of any use (see below)

ISTR the phonebook.ini is a fairly common problem, but can`t remember the
solution i`m afraid... There`s a line in the manual that says "copy the
upgrade software to a location on your HD. Copy the phonebook.ini from
your *original* Speedtouch USB CD to the same location on your HD" -
whether this will sort things out for you, I don`t know !

Do you have older drivers that work, and its just the updated drivers
that fail to install ?

Anyway, if you want to grab the drivers i`ve got, ftp to:

site : phoenixbbs.ath.cx
login: speedtouch
pword: drivers

Download the stuff loose in the root directory - the "speedtouch cd"
directory is simply a copy of my Pipex install CD with older drivers.

You could always use the phonebook.ini out of there for now if your
original one has been lost :-}

Good luck :-}

PS: ignore the name of the ftp server, its there to put off port scanners

There`s nothing as boring as bible bashing for the general population,
which is exactly what they get with an anonymous login ;-)

Can you give more exact details of the error?
Have you tried uninstalling the old drivers before installing the new
ones? - but watch out if you can't reinstall!
