- Router-modems and AOL
- Posted by Tim Downie on September 27th, 2004
What is the deal with sharing an AOL connection with a router/modem? Is
there a problem? Can you use more or less any combined router/modem?
I've picked up that AOL uses connection setting that mean that most routers
won't work "out-of-the-box" but that they can be reset to work with AOL. Is
this the case or am I misinformed?
I have a friend who wants to share his AOL BB connection but hasn't a clue
how to. I'm *marginally* less clueless. ;-)
TIA

Done it once, the only problem that I had was the MTU, you need to set the
MTU to 1400 on the router and all the PCs connected to it. Otherwise, it
should work just like the normal ADSL connection. Ah, one more, create
another screen name for the router to logon to AOL and you can then ditch
the AOL browser for good
