Router only connecting at switch on
Posted by Ant on July 11th, 2007

My BT Voyager 2110 router never used to have any problem reconnecting to the
internet if it got disconnected. Recently, though, it has stopped doing so.

It used to be the case that if it got disconnected for any reason it would
reconnect automatically. Now it just stays disconnected. It then refuses
to connect again no matter how many times I click the "connect" button. It
tries, but fails. The only way to get my internet connection back again is
to switch the router off and back on, whereapon it connects automatically.

The same thing happens if I deliberately click the disconnect option on the
status page - it won't let me reconnect until I switch the router off and on
again.

To complicate matters, I've just switched from a 2Mb connection to ADSL Max
(both Pipex) and am currently in the 10 day "training period". The problem
started shortly before switching to Max. Before, the router used to
disconnect occasionally. Since the switch it has never disconnected on it's
own, but Pipex have advised me to disconnect and reconnect once a day for
the first 10 days (is this really necessary?).

Could this be a problem with the router or the broadband service? My
suspicion is the router - at the moment the connection never drops unless I
tell it to and always reconnects after I've switched the router off and on.
It just won't reconnect *until* I've switched the router off and on!

Any ideas how I can fix this?
