Sky / Netgear router oddity ?

Then you aren't going for maximum speeds then as the background RF
noise is enough to make your speeds fall by a couple of Mbps between
morning & mid evening, unless you are realatively close to your
exchange where you shouldn't be affected so much

I highly recommend the OfficeConnect series, also. Office Connect and
Netgear are the two brands, when installed, i dont have to go back to. The
OfficeConnect however has a well known problem with psus keeling over.

I have installed dozens of both, and I prefer the netgear, but only just....
As said before, they are reliable, and dont 'forget' their settings, like
many other brands seem to.

Unfortunately, even these routers, significantly more stable and reliable
then most other routers, still need rebooting, and are flaky....

They can get very *hot*, and their psus where notorious. It might have been
an issue around that.. They do offer something like a ridiculous five or
eight year rtb warranty....

Same could be said of any mass produced product. Most people here, if
installing routers in a professional capacity, will have woeful stories of
Belkin routers going pop more times then rice crispies, but that doesnt
mean, out there, a percentage of them are rock solid and perform as they
should.

Just because your xbox360 hasnt died, doesnt mean the design fault that
killed 35% is nothing to worry about...

I've attended a job tonight where it was a belkin router, every
configuration change I made would not save, and the time on the router
kept going back to 1970, 00:00:00. Upgraded the firmware and it seems
better now but have advised hte customer to consider a replacement if it
starts playing silly buggers again.

I do explain to belkin router owners, that their product is unlikely to last

The customer was on AOL so I was expecting the linksys, my heart sank
when I saw the belkin. It sank even further when I realised that I would
have to take her router, dash home to upgrade the firmware, come back
and set it all up from scratch. She also had expired copies of Norton AV
2004, Internet Security 2004, and Macafee AV and internet security. From
typing in her windows logon to actually being able to start using the
laptop was about 4 minutes.

Don't be daft. Showed her how to get her WAN IP and enable remote
management, I'll do it from home thanks :-)

I've put it back for her. It's all working now. I meant if her wireless
started playing up again. If it decides to "forget" the username etc
then yes it's another call out.

If you didn't bother reflashing, I wouldn't bother. My Linksys does exactly
the same.

I put it down to a Sky network problem causing a silly (totally uninformed).
