Is this true?

"If you pass the limit on ADSL your limited to 512k for A WHOLE WEEK"


Is this right?

"STM is a Cisco uBR technology, how is that applied to a Virgin ADSL
connection that is serviced from a non unbundled BT exchange???"

I see they still lie in the faq so it can't be trusted.

Lets see:

8Mbit x 24 hr = 86G bytes
8Mbit x 16 hr + 0.5Mbit x 8 hr = 66G

And then they say they don't cap data downloads.

"There are still no limits to how much customers can download. We believe in
unlimited downloads and will not cap the amount of data you download over
your Broadband service."

Just plain lies, they cap how much you can download over any period of time
i.e. the length of the contract.

No an ISP has a limit set by the speed of service sold.
Virgin set a *cap* at below the speed of the service they sell.
In effect they sell you a 20M service that is on average 75% of the speed
that they advertise, if you use it.

Its quite simple, its a cap, but I do expect you to try and protect them
for some reason.

I thought of a way to decide if you are right.. fill in a complaint on the
ASA site and see what happens.. shame the systems not working ATM.

Huh !

I'd be well chuffed if they restricted me to 512Kbps for a whole
week !

I get around 100-200Kbps most weekday nights and all weekend..

Weekdays mornings and daytime is fine, rips along just under 6Mbps.

Have a chat with the poor old UK Virgin Techs and see if you can hit
on the right person ....before there gone forever..which won;t be
long..

This 5% of top users is rubbish according to them. They say that they
are throttling pretty much everyone across the board during peak
times.

I sometime sget up to 1Mbps during evenigs and weekends, but that
rare.

I'm not a big downloader, I don't watch video or play games, I do do
remote support via, VPN/RDP and other remote clients which I've now
had to start doing in the mornings before I go to work. Not amused
about this.

A couple of different techs who I spoke to were fed up to the back
teeth with folks calling them up complaining over the last few months,
they're glad there losing their jobs.

They acknowledged that basically the VM network was under resourced.

I don't care any more, I've got my MAC and I'm off elsewhere.

It rankles though, I've been a Virgin customer for eleven years !

Doesn't seem to count for much though.

I'm very very disappointed with them ( understatement of the year )

Virgin are sayin that they don't cap, they don't limit, they don't do
anything that they say they do on another web page of theirs, where it
says that they do exactly all of that.

I believe NTL are deliberately screwing their broadband customers, and
they thought that using the Virgin brand name to hide behind wud be
sufficient enough to be able to do this.
In the way that people wud think that the name/brand Virgin was one of
quality and trust etc...

It hasn't worked, and it has got to the point that it is probly
unrepairable.
In every broadband forum, in comments on the BBC website, everywhere,
there's people complaining, and most are of the opinion that they are
being ripped off.
This was unheard of before, it all started the same time they bought the
rights to use the Virgin brand name to hide who they really are.

and that is NTHell.

Even with a reduced speed on VM you can still download *as much as that
speed will allow* for ever and ever. I'd say that was practically un-limited
and certainly moreso than an absolute cap of 40GB or whatever.

As a final thought, I'd like to see *anybody* download at 20GB from an FTP
server on my home PC!!! <y point being that there are other speed-limiting
factors than just an ISPs stated 'up to' speed.
