- Wanadoo email via Thunderbird 1.5 ??
- Posted by Richard Faulkner on April 21st, 2006
Hi,
I'm trying to help my other half collect her emails with Mozilla
Thunderbird, but keep on getting a login/password error. I've also tried
with Turnpike and Demon, and the log shows the error at the password.
Her email is janet@abcdefg.freeserve.co.uk
We are using:
pop.wanadoo.co.uk also tried pop.freeserve.co.uk
abcdefg
password (the password works when logging into Wanadoos' webmail
account).
Could there be a different password? What could it be?
Many thanks

you wouldn't have a firewall blocking the incoming mail? I have seen the
password error with Wanadoo when it has been blocked in Norton Firewall.

Could be he case, but both turnpike and Thunderbird happily accept mail
for my demon and CompuServe accounts, and it happens on both computers,
(both using ZoneAlarm).
Dont fancy turning ZoneAlarm off....

I prefer to use pop.freeserve.com. The .co.uk version didn't used to
work for me.
IIRC back in the days of Freeserve, their webmail and POP3 email service
wasn't matched, but it appears to be now.
It's probably best to collect email via POP3 using the dialup username
and password.
One thought: if it's a PAYG account and you don't dial into it every so
often (90 days?) it becomes locked and you have to go through their
"Restore Account" pages from <http://www.wanadoo.co.uk/>.

Thanks for that.. It's a broadband account, and sorted now, as per a
couple of previous posts.
