Why the big difference between sybc speed and download speed
Posted by Adam Lipscombe on October 11th, 2006

Folks,

My router usually syncs at a downstream rate of @2400 kbps

However download speed usually seem to be about "947 Kbps or 0.95 Mbps (116 kB/s)" according to
testmy.net. The fastest I have seen recently is 1.3 Mbps.

I would have thought that it should be slightly less than the sync speed, allowing for ATM overhead etc.

Any ideas what could cause such a big difference?

Thanks - Adam

that looks like a 1M profile.

maybe not, then.

BT's MaxDSL has 0.5M service speed increments in an "IP Profile" so a
sync speed of 2400 is a 2M service which should speed test around 230
kbytes/s download. If the sync speed is <2272 the profile will be 1.5M
etc.
