I note that the Zen Internet news server is once again down
it beats me why they just do not dispense with it now has they have
undoubtedly now proved that they are incapable of maintaining it .

"> I think that Zen is now heading at full speed to the bottom of the pit

I think they realize this Monty and hence movement of gear to bigger
premises.
While this will undoubtly cause some major disruption to the network it
should be done at hrs that will cause the least disruption to customers AND
within a period of time not bits and pieces at their own will which seems
more the case hence major dismay amoungst us all.

Hmm bad news if thats during their working hrs. Feeling of stress on their
part with to many calls in complaints me feels..

Just 1 clear explaination on the current *upgrade* work and expected time
outs would I think keep us happy provided it was all tied in to a organised
*switch* over.

Aving said all that I had some jolly nice download speeds from Microsoft
last night.. the best Ive seen.
There praise for the boys!! (smile while you can!)

Stevie Boy posted the following to uk.telecom.broadband:

I'm beginning to sound like a broken record %<
We've had no email from Zen in almost a year giving warning of
possible reduced service or prompt that an error has happened and
is being fixed.

Likewise have there ever been any posts to zen.announce in the
same period ? Silly question really, as zen.support also
has had no updates. I've not been able to read the thread
"Unbelieveable less than 8 hrs retention!" because it appears
that news is being expired after 4 hours across all groups.

Exactly, upheaval is to be expected, but a regular progress report
is always welcome so that alternate arrangements can be made!

Zen have posted a couple of messages to the Zensupport site but hidden away
from the old latest news items and several clicks deep.
We need to hunt [<><>]

Yes full speed, even few news messages.

You format and reinstall once a week on average... why man? Even I (in my
blinkered MS disliking biased opinion) wouldn't believe that it was
necessary more than once a month. (Unless you install Kazaa or use IE I
suppose.)

Thank you Steve. That's a very nice reply. FWIW, I have so far found the
download speed very good indeed. (Been with them since June 11). I don't
know who is responsible for quality of connection, but I expect it's mainly
BT unless you use the email/news servers. Zen should get their act together
on news. As for email, the only reason I don't use it is that I already have
a perfectly good, free email account with Lineone (now Tiscali) and thus
don't have to change. I have nothing against Zen's account except I haven't
yet found out how to do the alias. I don't want to be zen18051@zen.co.uk, I
just want to be me!

Yes I believe you need to e-mail them on the alias you need. I've set up 5
alias via e-mail. They will contact you when they are set-up. Of course they
need to be unique. However I'm not sure how unique as the alias's as zen say
are *false* meaning they all run under the Main e-mail address!

I wonder how they dish out those numbers? Yours being *earlier* than mine!

Give Zen customer service a call and tell them you'd like an alias set up on
your account. It's free of charge.

It should not take that long. I proceeded with alias's during the sign up
process.
I gave them 5 alias's to assign to my account and only took 5 days to
set-up.

This was via e-mail to customer services.

I would ask tho do they have your last ISP e-mail address on record? More
than likely as it is the address you have to enter when signing up online.

They have a habit of sending them to the registered address!

If this is the case you either need to check your old account (if poss)
and/or make sure Zen's records are upto date.
