Acer 3003 WLMI manual
Posted by nospam on November 24th, 2005

Hi,

RE: Acer 3003 WLMI

I am hoping santa will bring me a new laptop for christmas.

I was considering the above model.

But trying to find exact specs is a bit of a problem for some strange
reason.

It appears to come in two variations,

one with a DVD DL RW / CD-ROM and one with a

DVD/CDRW

The company I was looking at to purchase this from have responded to
my email saying they cant be sure which model they supply, though they
have
plenty in stock. I guess looking at the box or manual is too time
consuming for
them.

I tried to download a user guide from the acer web site but its not
there.

does anyone know where I can download a copy as this would seam the best
way top find out lots of info about

the model in question.

I don't know why acer don't have it with all the other manuals, it must
be available as they must be shipping it on

cdrom with the laptops!

thanks

There is something wrong the model number you quote. It might be that
this is a special product number used by a mass purchaser and have
specifications defined by the purchaser.

Acer's specs are here:

Thanks for that,

It is definitely an Aspire 3003WLMi
AMD Sempron 3000+ (25W), Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition, 256MB DDR,
60GB, DVD-Dual, 64MB Shared VGA, 15.4" WXGA TFT with Acer CrystalBrite,
Modem, LAN, 802.11g WLAN, 4-Cell Li-Ion Battery, MS-Works
LX.A5505.683

also with the same model number is the Aspire 3003WLMi
AMD Sempron 3000+ (25W), Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition, 512MB
(2*256) RAM, 60GB HDD, DVD-Dual Drive, 64MB Shared VGA, 15.4" WXGA TFT
Display with Acer CrystalBrite, Modem, LAN, 802.11b/g WLAN, MS-Works
LX.A5505.340

This is the link to the model in question.

ISOCtxParam=UK&LanguageISOCtxParam=en&crc=35862168 58

but definitely no user manual on their web site.

I will probably have to find a shop and check the spec personally to
ensure that it has a DL DVD etc.

i was just hoping to be able to read the manual so i could go in with a
bit more knowledge.

Does anyone know what they mean by shared vga memory,
shared with what?

The video chip does not have its own dedicated memory. It shares the ram
available on the motherboard with the cpu.

I believe you received your answer about the shared memory... but I
just purchased the .593 part number as a gift and the box is labeled
as having Sempron 3000+ 512MB RAM, 60GB HDD, DVD/CD-RW etc.

Got it at Circuit City for $749 minus $150 rebate = $599 total.

Not bad for these specs.

Hope you get it!

When you have had time to get a feel for it can you let me know what you
think of it.

I have just been down to my local store and I like the crystal display,
seam a bit reflective but sharp and intense colours.

How is its performance?

I was wondering about the L2 cache , it only has 256 MB where as a
celeron has 1MB. But the sempron FSB runs at 1.6 GHz where as the
celeron only runs at 400 MHz.

I'm not sure if I would notice any difference with general office type
applications, I would be interested in your fell on its performance.

Thanks again for the feedback

to run this Acer laptop through its paces, but here goes.

I used the laptop out of the box for the past week. I must admit, the
look, fit and finish are above what I expected. It came loaded with
Win XP SP2 and using the internal wireless I downloaded and applied
all the latest "fixes".

I've installed Mozilla, GIMP, OOo v 2.01 and some other facilities on
it and ALL load, run and operate with the best of them. The ONE and
ONLY issue I have seen so far is the middle button on the touch pad.
It is supposed to be a left/right,up/down scroll button but it doesn't
work right under Windoze (it actually causes a program fault) which
when I use the task manager to cancel, control comes right back and I
resume what I was doing. Soon I will look into it and see if Acer
has a correction for it.

So, there you have it. For $599 that I ultimately paid for this
512MB/60GB/802.11bg/15.4" XVGA/CDRW-DVD laptop - I can only recommend
- GO FOR IT! It's a pretty good deal.

I purchased at Circuit City when they had a $50 discount and Acer
offered a $150 rebate. Regular price $799.

I eventually got a 1642 in the end. My middle button works in most
Microsoft apps but not in firefox 1.5. It has caused a few program
errors if I click it too many time.

The 60 GB disc is formatted as two 27 GB partitions using FAT32

I wish it had come with XP discs so I could use the space that is
partitioned for the recovery stuff.

I was thinking of converting it to but was worried that the this might
make the recovery non functional

I emailed acer to ask if there would be a problem restoring the system
if I had a crash.

They gave me an automatic reply number but after two weeks I have still
not received a reply.

All that said it is a very nice machine and it works a treat.
