Acer Aspire 1700
Posted by Monkfish on June 20th, 2004

Hi All,
I wonder if anyone can help?
I'm in the market for a new laptop and have been looking at the Acer Aspire
range as they seem to cover all I need.Does any one have any views on them?
Are they any good?
I know they are quite a heavy laptop but I will be using it more as a PC
replacement.
Also I would like to get a TV card with remote for the laptop, any
recommendations?

Thanks in advance

Huey

I've used many acer laptops and although build quality can leave a bit to be
desired (just a bit, mind!) they're generally quite good.

If you're not bothered about power-saving (like centrino technology, longer
battery life) then the aspire's are a better idea, in comparison to their
acer travelmate's.

It's best to search 'google' for reviews.

i.e: "aspire 155lc"

and see what turns up.

You'll get a lot of guff, but that's the best ways to get reviews, as
sometimes dooyoo.co.uk or ciao.co.uk don't have reviews on specific acer
models.

search groups.google.com too, which will search newsgroups for the info
you're after.

Generally speaking, acer's used to be bad, but they now make a lotttttt of
parts for other manufacturers, and have vastly improved their laptops and
aftercare support.

Hi Dave,
Thanks for that.I'm after more of a desktop replacement laptop than a mobile
but have only just started looking around and hadn't heard of Acer
before. They seem like a very good deal I will probably opt for the Aspire
1711.

many Thanks

See my post today. I think ACER machines are probably OK if they work but
you really don't want to have to deal with their support line or repair
service!

I'd avoid ACER in future myslef.

I use Acer 1703. For me - very good machine and as a desktop replacement is
just fine. As far as I know 1711 is the same + wireless features.
