- Advice about buying a Laptop from the USA
- Posted by Tony on February 13th, 2004
Hi
Can anybody suggest a good dealer to buy a Laptop from in the USA.
Also is it possible to buy one with UK specifications. If not, apart
from the keyboard would it be usable in the UK. Can the inappropriate
keys be replaced for example the $ key.
TIA

The keyboard is (re)programmable, all you
need is a set of small labels for the keys
that are different (I suspect fewer than a
half dozen). Choose UK English during the
Windows setup process.
I would imagine you want a brand/model that
comes with an international warranty and
local technical support in the UK. Very
few vendors provide warranty and support
outside the US for products purchased in
the US. I suspect that probably limits
your choices to Dell, Fujitsu, HP and IBM.

Hi,
Would be most interested to hear from your experience doing this, as I
have been considering this too. Could you post your experience if you
would have done so.

If you're hoping to make a saving by buying from the states - i think
you'll be disappointed the time import tax is added it doesn't work out
much of a saving...
