Hi all,
Advice needed. My company (who's dubious about newsgroups, hence my
newsnet name) wants to buy (or lease) some laptops to meet the following
requirements:
1. Light (under 5.5lbs or 2.5kg)
2. 1440x1050 pixel screen size
3. USB2 ports, plus a 1394 port
4. Either direct DVI out, or a docking station that supports DVI, to
1600x1200
5. Built in .11b/g wireless
6. Decent battery life
7. Non-flimsy build, plus good keyboard
This looks tough to me, escpecially the DVI part, which annoyingly
hasn't become ubiquitous in today's business class laptops. With the
exception of the firewire/1394 port, these requirements are
non-negotible. Naturally I'm thinking Pentium M class, preferably Dothan
processor (for the 2MB cache).
There are a few around that come close - Dell D600, some of the IBM
T41/42 models, one or two Fujitsus, an Acer here and there. The IBM T42p
(with video driver hacked to support 1600x1200 - how dumb) looks good,
but very expensive.
Any ideas? Any gossip that there's going to be a rash of new models Real
Soon Now?
Much appreciated,
-p
