To the best of my knowledge all wide-screen (15.4-inch or greater, like
the Dell Inspiron 8500 and 8600, Dell Latitude D800, Compaq Presario
X1000) laptops are made by Quanta, which now makes the Pavilion zd7000 at
17.1-inch, like the Toshiba P25-S507. These wide screens are advertised
for their luminosity, but they are distinctly darker and bluer than the
15-inch enhanced UXGA screens of the IBM A30P/31P, Toshiba Satellite 5100
and 5200, Satellite Pro 6000 and 6100, and the 16-inch UXGA screens of the
Sony GRX series.
The same site says that the Dell’s Latitude X300 and Inspiron 300m
produced by Samsung. You can read more in it.

Then he goes on to name seven "ODMs", but there are more, and Toshiba
still makes some of their own (using Compal for some other models), as
does IBM.
Bottom line here is that the headline says one thing, but the body of
the text itself supports the FACT that there are over a dozen
manufacturers (there may well be several dozen, but I can only
personally identify about a dozen). In my book, that's more than "just
a few", although there is no arguing that the actual manufacturer and
the name on the logo plate are often if not usually different.

And lower end home electronics (they have their own set of ODMs). A
good example is the Chinese made DVD players.

I am interested in making "a clone like the new powerbook"
23/sep/03
Presenting the new 12-inch PowerBook G4, featuring a brilliant
active-matrix display housed in a stunning aluminum alloy enclosure
weighing just 4.6 pounds. The most compact full-featured notebook
in the world starts at just $1599. And the airport Extreme card ads
98
The new 12-inch PowerBook G4 comes with built-in support for DVI,
VGA,
S-video and composite video signals. And since the 12-inch
PowerBook
supports dual display mode and video mirroring, you can extend your
work area and mirror your projects to an external display...
Built-in Bluetooth. with the NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 with 32MB of
DDR
SDRAM, 1GHz PowerBook G4
When I look at the clone laptops that are 12" which is what I want
because
of several reasons. For instance because of the ease of handling it
(I might not be as strong as you are), the lower battery drain of a
smaller screen, the ease of hiding its presence meaning better
security.
So all comments and suggestions are deeply appreciated.
I was especially interested in the comments on screen quality.
Thanks and thanks.
