Averatec Touch Screen

I asked if anyone knw of a replacement to the AVeratec C3500
touchscreen in
http://groups.google.com/group/comp....509a98d0faca2c

No one answered and I can't find any replacements on the web.

But the story has a happy ending, so anyone with a cracked screen might
want to consider this:

This Averatec C3500 screen has a piece of glass on the front that
serves no apparent purpose other than to protect the underlying LCD. (I
was afraid the touchscreen electronics was somehow itegrated with this
glass.) I sliced through the black double-sided tape that holds this
glass to the LCD, cleaned all of the adhesive off, and then mounted my
own piece of glass to the screen, using some very thin double-sided
tape of my own (from an art-supply store).

The only tool I used for cutting through the tape was a very thin metal
tape measure held very tight between my hands.

This C3500 now operates as good as new for the cost of a piece of glass
and some tape - $10 vs. $500 or more for a new LCD (if you can find
one).
