b3 pc centrino notebook
Posted by Tommy on August 14th, 2003

Hi all,

Does anyone out there have any experience with B3 PC?
(http://e100.varnet.org/frame.aspx) It's basically a no-name (made in
China) that is distributed thru resellers. I bought a Centrino
Notebook from my local CompUSA here in San Diego. It's overall a
great machine, small and light, and super fast, with a sideloading DVD
burner, but I think there might be engineering glitches.

First off, the wireless connection meter seems to go up and down as I
watch it. I've tried out some other notebooks, and have not seen this
behavior. i checked out a Sony Centrino system in the store today as
well, and it looked pretty solid. I have had a few times it seems
where connection have gotten dropped, but only for an instant. Either
way, if i'm 5 feet from the access point, it should NEVER happen.

Second, twice it has blue-screened on me (this is XP Pro, btw) when I
have accessed or slipped in a DVD. Not all the time, tho. Not sure
if this is a software compatability issue or what.

Unfortunately, there is no real website or anything on the web, near
as I can find, supporting drivers for this machine.

I still have a week to return it if I have to, and I'm also eyeing a
Presario X1015 when it finally comes out.

Any comments?

Tommy
