Battery conservation: Running laptop on AC only without battery.....??

Is it better to a laptop without the battery to avoid putting a load on
it....?? Would this help preserve the battery or is there a auto cut
off switch when the battery is fully charged...??

If this newsgroup had an FAQ, this would be number 1.

The charge circuit does stop charging when the battery is full.
Theoretically, the battery can be left in the laptop indefinitely when on AC
power.

However, having said that, anecdotal evidence suggests that batteries are
destroyed by leaving them in situ on AC power. I believe this is more down
to the design of the laptop. If there are heat producing parts near the
battery (CPU, disk drive etc.), then it is the heat that destroys the
battery. Lithium-ion batteries hate even moderate amounts of warmth. In
fact, keeping them in the fridge* when they are not in use will extend their
life.

*but NOT the freezer.

Freezers cannot reach a temperature low enough to solidify the
electrolytes in batteries.

Be that as it may, I would use the fridge!

What does that have to do with it? The temperature of a freezer will still
destroy the battery - and the freezer!
