I want the best of the best, but i have no idea where to look? I'd
like a custom job rather than dell or such.
Thanks

Craig, I'd suggest either an IBM ThinkPad T or A series.

Would it be cheaper for a smaller company to build the notebook rather
than the large corp.. If anyone could send me in the right direction,
websites or names of notebook builders please let me know.
thanks

Prostar and Sager and the same notebooks. Prostar has better rep then Sager
when it comes to Tech support. Check out the laptops at

same thing on about a $1,000 less. I have an Sager NP5680 and the
Alienware Area 51-M was a lot more.

What is your opinion of the Sager? I am in the market to purchase my first
laptop and was looking at the 17" Sager 4780. I'm getting concerned now
about fan noise after reading this newsgroup. I don't want something so
loud that it would wake up the other fire fighters at the station or when we
are deployed (military fire fighter). Is the fan noise really noticeable?

just got from work. If you need a super quiet laptop, the sager is not
what you want. If you want pure unadulterated brute force power, the
Sager is for you. The IBM is nice and quiet but it does have a crappy
keyboard in my opinion.

describe it. The Dell C400 I had before this IBM had a much better feel
IMO. The Dell kept overheating was the only reason they replaced it and
we thought we would try the IBM since no one else has one in the office.
Also the IBM is missing the Windows key that I use to lock the machine
with (Windows + L) instead of alt+ctrl+del. YMMV

There's a utility called the "Keyboard Customizer Utility" that maps any
key you want to any other. So you can make, for example, the right ALT
key be the Windows key. Works great. Look in Start->Programs-> "Access
IBM" (at least that's where it is on my older A22p).

Best of the best would probably be the ibm t41p, but very expensive
(something like $3400).
Voodoo PC has a very nice lineup of laptops, one with an athlon 64 and
9600 graphics, another thin and light with pentium M and 9600
graphics. (a couple other nice multimedia beasts..literally.. the
m:600 is up to 13 pounds I believe heh).
The new high end laptops with Pentium M and ATI 9600 graphics are a
nice mix of speed and battery savings. The voodoo laptop with the
athlon 64 I read also has very good battery life for the performance
it has, although the battery is supposed to be fairly large.
I made a small list of laptops with high performace features with no
preference to manufacturer, the main requirement was to be great
laptops for gaming... and if a laptop(or any PC) can handle the latest
games at high speed then most other tasks are no problem.

Then you want an Apple 17" Powerbook. Prices are fixed but you can
customize the machine by ordering through Apple on line.
Best Windows machine? What difference does it make after a certain
point? You are still stuck with a less powerful OS regardless of
hardware choice.
