Bluetooth keyboard and mouse
Posted by Pat on September 22nd, 2005

Hello all,

I was thinking of getting a bluetooth keyboard and mouse (MS optical desktop
elite, for example) for my Dell Inspiron 9300, which has bluetooth built in.

Does anyone know if these are compatible (I read there are different
bluetooth protocols so not all devices are) and, if so, how performance and
battery life might be with this?

I'm thinking of going this route instead of a docking station.

Thanks for any feedback.

Pat

Hi Pat:

If you visit the Bluetooth Qualification website you will find the
protocols are generally backward compatible. Their URL is:

http://qualweb.bluetooth.org/Templat...lifiedProducts

The latest version, Bluetooth 2.0, has few devices offered for sale at
this time. This may be the version of Bluetooth that is installed in
your Dell Inspiron 9300. (I believe that Bluetooth Version 2.0 is also
installed on my new Compaq D4000 series laptop. I borrowed an older
Microsoft Bluetooth Mouse from my employer and it worked fine on my
laptop.)

You should have no problem running the Microsoft optical desktop elite
or other similar devices on your laptop.

Purchase the device at a reliable retailer with the proviso that you
can return it if it doesn't work on your laptop...more than likely, you
won't have to return it.

Hi Al,

Thanks for info. I appreciate it. I think your right, and I'll give it a
try.
