Bought laptop without researching port docking
Posted by eganders on May 18th, 2008

I purchased a Dell XPS M1530 laptop to replace my old desktop. I was
planning on using it like I do the Dell Lattitude I have at work, but
with a larger screen for movies on the road, etc.

I really envisioned being able to dock it like I do my work PC with a
monitor stand and port replicator. That system works very well. Just
stick it in and everything is a desktop. Presto! Laptop is instantly
a desktop.

I now realize that the XPS M1530 does not have that capability. I
read the reviews of the alternative port replicators (Like the
Kennsington expansion dock) that will work, and they are NOT
impressive. I thought that most modern laptops could dock like my
work laptop, now I realize that this is not a standard feature.

I jumped on a good deal that Dell was having with what looked like a
laptop that had everything I needed. Don't flame me, I am flaming
myself for not researching as well as I should. Any suggestions?
Should I and can I stop Dell from shipping the XPS M1530 laptop?
Thanks in advaince.
