- Can't Boot could be cmos password
- Posted by Ken on October 30th, 2004
I have a compaq Armada 7800 that I have had for 9 months. I walked
away with it on for about an hour, when I came back, I could not get
it to boot. What happens is that the power comes on and that's it.
Won't boot from floppy, CD, or Hard drive. Tried removing the CMOS
battery and disconnecting the Aux battery, but the time length on that
exercise varies after reading other posts. I left the machine idle
with the main battery out for about 4 months. When i tried to boot
from the floppy, worked great...i ran scandisk and found that there
were over 7 meg of bad files, probably windows system files.
After being idle, it went into the same MODE (for lack of a better
word). It appears that being UNPOWERED for a while, allows me to boot
from floppy.
QUESTION, does anyone know how long this time is or how I can reset so
I can boot from the floppy immediately. Once I can be boot, I'll
repartion the HD and restore. Thanks Ken

Publish what you found. I had the same problem with a 7700. Ended up
swapping the hard drive. Would be nice to get the old one working again.
Boots with the drive removed, won't boot with the drive installed.
Can't fix it if it won't boot.

It looks like your HD is having a problem. If you can get it booting again,
quickly backup the data and replace the drive.
